Ethnographic post: The Navajo people

I still am not sure what point to take on this project, it is a very diverse culture and a pretty large topic so any suggestions would really help. Here are some of the questions;
1. What are some cultural things they are involved in?
2. How much of their own history do they know?
3. Is it hard keeping the language alive?
4.What traditions are the most different from most American customs?
5. Is it hard to keep old customs going?
6. What are the majority of the cultures beliefs?
7. On the reservations do the people still believe in old customs?
8. How are they keeping the language and culture alive?
9. What are the main differences from today's culture compared to in the past
10. What are some of the stories the elderly people tell the younger children?

I don't really know where I'm going with this yet so if anyone has feed back that would be great!

  1. I like the questions that concern keeping their cultural and language alive.I find it very important to keep those things around for future generations.Another thing that would be interesting to research would be their opinion on the programs the government has set up for them.Example: reservations,schooling,housing programs ex.

  2. Those are all very interesting questions to consider writing about. One you mentioned that I really like is if you wrote about the culture. you could ask "What are the greatest traditions and customs?" or "What are the biggest trials and hardships they must endure?"

  3. Those are interesting questions. Those questions can help you out a lot. Here are two quetions you can try: Do all Navajo people have the same culture? and What kind of food do they eat?

  4. If you focused mainly on the younger people you could ask them what they think of the traditions that the older people follow. Do they like them and want to learn them also or are they like most teenage kids who think they're parents and grandparents are outdated and should learn to integrate into the rest of the world.

  5. There are several angles that could stem from this and give you a nice lengthy paper. Some other questions you could ask are, do they feel pressure from US customs? Are the people that follow Navajo customs becoming fewer and why they think that is?
